The Lansing Lugnuts, Class-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, are celebrating their 22nd season “Going Nuts” in Michigan’s capital city. Featured in USA Today and on CNN for their successes, the Lugnuts make their home at beautiful Cooley Law School Stadium. Built in 1996 for $20 million, Cooley Stadium seats 11,000, hosts 18 suites, and features multiple private picnic areas. Two years ago, the ballpark received a major $15M renovation as part of a larger $28M project to build a mixed-use apartment building directly overlooking the outfield of the ballpark! This project, which has garnered national attention, has provided incredible new stadium amenities and venues to Lugnuts fans while also furthering the revitalization effort and growth of the downtown Stadium District.
This past season the Lugnuts were voted “2016 Best Ballpark Renovation” by Ballpark Digest. The Outfield Redevelopment project at the ballpark received two prestigious awards including the Gold Award for creating and packaging in a Public/Private Partnership. The project also received the Silver Award for the Real Estate Redevelopment and Reuse. The 2016 season also saw the 8,000,000th Lugnuts fan through the gates in team history!
JOB SUMMARY: This individual will sell and service a full menu of ticket, suite and party area products to business customers. He/She will work to achieve the established individual and team sales revenue goals as well as meeting qualitative servicing standards. The executive will pursue a solid working relationship with other Lugnuts departments, including group sales, box office, retail, sponsorship and food service. The account executive will benefit from a networked proprietary computer sales contact management system, which allows for greater efficiency and effectiveness, unparalleled in the industry.
A consultative approach is the foundation to this position. Tactics include a heavy amount of outbound telemarketing to existing customers and new prospects as well as face-to-face presentations to prospects. Game day facilitation including seat visits and client entertaining is a key component of the in-season job description.
This is a great position for candidates who are dedicated to pursuing a sales career in or out of sports, and who would thrive in learning proven sales strategies with a consultative sales approach. However, this position does require a strong commitment and a sound work ethic, as our sales representatives (like the rest of the Lugnuts front office staff), must work most Lugnuts home games (71 per year) in addition to regular office hours and large stadium special events.
3-5 years intense sales experience (sales experience in baseball a plus)
Strong communication skills
Willingness and desire to learn
Commitment to learning the art of sales
Attention to detail and a commitment to excellence a must
